Pessary Appointments
Pessaries can be a very effective treatment option for prolapse and stress incontinence. Pessaries work by supporting the vaginal walls and pelvic organs, providing relief for these symptoms. They can be worn continuously or used only when symptomatic (e.g. running/ exercise).
We currently fit ring, ring with knob, gellhorn, cube, dish and continence dish pessaries. We use fitting kits during your appointment, so your physio can try a variety of appropriate types and sizes for maximum symptom relief. Your physio will then teach you how to remove and insert your pessary if you would like to do this yourself.
Pessary Fitting Costs
The cost of a pessary fitting includes:
-
The appointment fee:
-
45 minutes if you’ve seen us within the last 12 months
-
Up to 1 hour and 15 minutes if this is your first appointment/ if you haven’t seen us in 12 months
-
-
A $110 pessary fitting fee, which covers:
-
The pessary device
-
The fitting process (including any adjustments)
-
To ensure you feel confident and supported in your decision, you will have the opportunity to trial a pessary during your appointment. If you do not get enough symptom relief and choose not to go ahead, the $110 fitting fee will not be charged — you’ll only pay for the appointment itself!
Follow-Up Schedule for Pessary Use
To keep pessary use safe and effective, regular follow-up appointments are essential. After your fitting, you’ll usually need to return at:
-
1 week
-
1 month
-
3 months
After that, your follow-up schedule depends on how your pessary is managed:
-
If you are self-managing (removing, cleaning, and reinserting it yourself), follow-up is recommended every 6 to 12 months.
-
If your physiotherapist is managing your pessary, you will need follow-up approximately every 3 months.
Even if you’re self-managing, it’s important to check in regularly to ensure your vaginal tissues are healthy and your pessary is still fitting well.
Important note on pessary safety
Please note, your safety is our priority. In some cases your physio may deem that it is not safe to fit you with a pessary. In this case you will only be charged for the appointment (not the fitting fee) and your physio will provide other treatment as indicated.

Book Now!
You can book this if your doctor or your physio has recommended a pessary, or if you feel like you need a pessary. You are also welcome to book a prolapse, incontinence, or standard initial and choose to have a pessary fitting later.
