Daytime Bladder and Bowel Accidents

Daytime wetting or soiling can be distressing for both children and their families. These accidents are rarely caused by laziness or behavioural issues—instead, they’re often linked to underlying bladder or bowel dysfunction. Children may not recognize the need to go, may postpone going, or may have other pelvic dysfunction or health conditions that contribute to their daytime accidents.

Our physiotherapy approach focuses on uncovering the reasons behind the accidents. We use fun and age-appropriate ways to teach children how their bladder and bowels work and how to identify and respond to their body’s signals. Treatment often includes bladder and bowel retraining, optimisation of toileting routine, diet modification, treatment of any underlying bladder and/or bowel dysfunction and communication with teachers and childcare providers.
